Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Build I received the Trevi Fountain set as a Christmas present and I am incredibly pleased with it. The build came together in about 3 and a half hours and the instructions were easy to follow. The build itself was very intricate, as are most of the larger architecture sets, because of all of the small pieces. However, as per Lego's suggestion, I separated the pieces by color and the task of sorting through all 731 pieces became much less daunting. Some parts of the build became a little repetitive but it was all worth it when the building finally came together. The build actually started with the base and water, which included many small bits, but the instructions did a very good job of leading me through it with minimal confusion. The main building came next, which was where it became repetitive, and finished with the rocks and the horses. If I have any complaints, it would be with the rocks and horses. This part of the build, as some other reviewers have pointed out, seemed a little flimsy, especially the horses, which fell apart several times as I tried to put them together. It tries to pack as much detail in as it can and still stay true to the scale and sacrifices some integrity to do so, which, in this case, is entirely forgivable. The final result is spectacular. I love this set and it looks great of my shelf next to the Farnsworth House and Falling Water. Enjoy and happy building!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Interesting addition to the product line, but.... I was very excited to build this Architecture series product because of the intricate details including the blue 'water' tiles and blocks. It is more challenging than some of the other buildings in the series, and I did find myself both making mistakes while following the building instructions and having some parts (the horses) constantly falling apart. My biggest disappointment, however, was on viewing the completed kit: because the building instructions have you place clear (ie no-color) blocks on the front side of the fountain's wall, and transparent blue blocks on the back side of the fountain's wall, the structure appears to have very little color unless you back-light it. Back-lighting allows the color from the transparent blue blocks on the back of the structure to shine through to the front. Intending to display this building on a shelf against a wall will take a good deal of the beauty away from the product. I may take it apart and reverse the positions of the clear and transparent blue blocks so that the color is on the front of the structure and it will then look more like the photo on the box. A better choice would have been to use light blue transparent blocks for the fountain's wall, and no clear blocks. To me, this was a huge design flaw and creates deceptive product advertising which led to disappointment with the finished product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much Better Than Anticipated When the Trevi Fountain was released I felt it was nice, but was not personally inclined to purchase. In the end, I received the Trevi Fountain model as a gift, and within the first hour of building, I had totally changed my mind. The kit consists of 731 pieces which is quite high considering the scale of the model. The primary reason for this high piece count is the extensive use of smaller 1x1 and 1x2 tiles and plates. This adds to both the intricacy of the build as well as the detail of the finished model. I enjoyed the model designer's notes in the instruction manual explaining the abstract representations of the actual fountain's more subtle details as well as the creative approach to representing the coral/rock formations. The instruction manual also did a great job showing where new elements were to be placed despite being placed in close proximity to very similar elements. The only genuine criticism I can offer for this kit has nothing to do with the model itself, rather it pertains to the instruction manual binding method. The Lego Fallingwater model featured a spiral-bound instruction manual whereas all subsequent Lego Architecture manuals have been glue/tape bound. I personally much prefer the spiral binding, but to their credit, Lego's glue binding does seem robust and should last. For those undecided on this model, I would suggest taking the plunge. The representation as well as piece count make this model worthwhile and quite enjoyable to build.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glow of the water I got the Trevi Fountain as a birthday present from my friends, who embrace my newly found LEGO enthusiasm. Such a cool present, such super cool friends! I love the model, it's my first from the Architecture series. It was fun to build - intricate details combined with some lovely technics and in the end a wonderful interpretation of the actual fountain. The instruction book has a grown-up wibe with the sleek black pages, info of the building, and the words from the LEGO designer. The toughest part to build might be the water. One has to be careful, and I would imagine that if you are a more short-tempered LEGO builder, the brick separator included will come in handy. A nice touch is that the instruction book has red markings to make the building of the water easier. The finished building is very very beautiful. I personally don't mind the clear blue bricks of the wall element being behind the transparent ones at all, because I really like how the fountain looks so different in different lights - just like the actual Trevi Fountain. But I can imagine some people might find this troubling. I always imagine what it would be like as a child to receive the LEGO models I build. The thing is, this model has 12+ age recommendation, but if I would have gotten this when I was 9 or older, I would have been so excited! So if you have a child who loves to build things, enjoys beautiful sceneries, and loves to draw houses and design apartment lay-outs, and is good with puzzles, this is a perfect present for them. And same goes with grown-ups! :D
