No one has written a detailed review yet and that is what you want right? I ordered this the day is it came out and I recieved it and built it on the 7th and I am writing this review on the eighth. I built it iin 6 hours with many breaks and lots of messing around so about 4 hours actually. this is an incredible plane and has many more funtions and greatness than lego has said. You start out building the lower wings and the cockpit. This took the longest for me because i am very messy about building legos so on this part there was many times when only 1 kind of a piece was in the set and it had to be found and you built the cockpit for a really long time so it showed ALL of the plane that was already built when you couldve just zoomed in on the cockpit to build it. Then comes the fusleage It was pretty easy but watch out for the lengths of the sides. This where you get to see the first aireloins move which are the back ones. There is a lego panhard rod connecting from the joystick to a technic beam and the technic beam is pulled back by a rubber band and has a string attached to it that that connects to the back aireloins. I was disappointed that they didnt go all the way down but that was a quick fix by moving the string stud one stud closer to the plane to give it more slack so the rubber bands can pull it all the way down. Next was the top wings, I completely blew the moment by putting them on backwards at first but they look glorious. the wing aireloins work perfect and smooothly. Next comes the wheels, no here is something you sould not expect: this thing has suspension with 2 of the gray shocks. But they dont go up and down but rather balance the sway of the plane or if your lottle brother steps on the win g it wont break and tip over. The prop speins very smoothly and does not hit the twin vickers machine guns. The cockpit is very detailed with an instrument panel and a wicker seat. Only 5 out of 11 of the strings on it are for the airleloins the the rest are for show. I have some picture of the underside and shocks, the mod with the back aireloins and the cockpit and the innards of the fuselage. Also see the video of it.

I just got this Lego set today, and I must say, it is one of the most detailed Lego sets I have ever made. It took me 4 hours to make, but it was defiantly worth it. It looks absolutely amazing when completed, and I love how you can move the flaps with the joystick in the cockpit. Defiantly worth the $100. The Sopwith Camel was bigger than I expected! I have included a few pictures of the Sopwith Camel that I made.

I have the original 2001 Lego Sopwith Camel and was excited to build the newest version! The detail in the newest version is much better in the newest rendition; in particular the functionality of the wing flaps. I feel the caliber of such a creation is meant for display more than it is for play which is why I gave it 4/5 for play experience. In terms of durability the 2001 version with its lack of moving parts is more suitable for play.

      A Rare Lego WarBird

First of all, I just want to say that I highly recommend buying this set before it goes extinct! You don't often see a Lego Set like this having alot of features close to the real bird around plus the model itself is based on a historical plane! A must have for aviation fans! Flight controls are a plus on this set as well! Although motion is limited, it is still quite a feat to have this on a Lego model. I heard the previous Sopwith Camel (the brown one) didn't even have the same features as this. Moving the cyclic stick left and right will move the ailerons, forward and aft for the elevator. Moving flight control surfaces involves those minus the rudder. I wish they came up with pedals as well to move the rudder but other than that, the biplane looks like the real thing! Its pretty much looking at a real Sopwith Camel transformed into a Lego set. The RAF stickers by far we're a bit challenging for me because you have to center it to the square block to where it goes to. Not something that you want to hurry up and just stick it otherwise it'll really look crooked. It comes with rubber o-rings to help provide tension on the flight controls(and a pair as well to help keep traction on its landing gear) and nylon thread strings to transfer controls from the cyclic stick to the ailerons. How they came up with the flight controls was genius to incorporate them to a Lego set! It was nice for them to even include a brick separator as well seeing that most of the parts involved in assembling this set are skinny plates and small blocks.. to probably minimize the gaps and holes usually seen from other typical Lego sets. When you view this set from afar it really does look like the real thing! Kudos to the designers for this set! This would be a nice decoration to a fireplace or to any other spot in your house, specially to the aviation fans out there!
