Rated 4 out of 5 by from Highly Addictive, incredibly imaginative Wow Lego, Ideas has produced something truly timeless and imaginative, for me this epitomises what Lego is all about. The control system is both ergonomic and easy to manage, the changeability of the Mazes is genius, and the fact that there are two distinct variations combined with many more options out of the box is a nice touch. In our house the Maze moves around a lot, as a result there is great use made of the well thought out storage and transport "system". The only thing I have found is that the outer frame from the strain tends to drift slowly apart so I am constantly having to push it back together (maybe I'll "Cragle" it later). In terms of others comments regarding the balls' flat spot and single sided controls this hasn't been an issue for me or my son at all, let alone anyone else who's played with it ... and it gets a lot of play. We truly love this model and for me it is one of the most versatile, a great introduction to encouraging young designers to custom Lego building.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Lego Set This set was awesome! But I had to rebuild the tan colored brick pieces. Also, I kept having to remove the maze and maybe the tan colored pieces to fix some lego pieces that were coming off of the base plate. I made up my own maze, but it had no traps, but did have long dead ends, and start and finish tiles. I mean, when I saw the extra pieces that the set comes with, I was surprised about how many tiles there were. But, this set was a little bit pricy. I added marbles and Lego soccer balls, and it was an excellent combination! Definitely buy this set if you like technic lego sets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Idea, Minor Flaws Just received the Lego Maze in the mail today and couldn't wait to put it together. Threw the whole thing together in about 3 hours (including a light lunch). Overall I love the mechanics/inner mechanisms that make the maze work, it is pretty cool to see how the tilting action takes place. I LOVE the idea that it is insanely modifiable and that many people can submit ideas, build multiple levels, have different themes (I'm working on a star wars one), but there is one major problem. In 2 directions the maze is greatly hampered in its ability to tilt. Sometimes when you are in a corner of the maze, you can't tilt enough to actually get it moving, so I do fear my wish to make a 2 story maze will greatly be influenced on the directions in which I can tilt hard enough to get up a ramp. I believe it is fixable by using a straight piece rather than an L shaped piece with a shorter connector, but without a different sized connector I don't think I can fix it with the parts included. I'll have to cannibalize another set to fix it. The idea was great, the execution was a bit off, if I am able to make it work with the pieces included I'll submit an edit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very special LEGO set It is rare that LEGO produces a set which is neither for minifig based play nor for display. This is a set for actual play as good old real world arcarde game. If you know the old school wooden mazes, you get the idea what you'll get in this set in a legofied version. The size of the maze is smaller compared to the wooden original (or rather, the elements inside are slightly bigger) but it makes more than up for this with its modifyability, after all it is LEGO. There are two maze designs included in the official manual, but there are many more mazes possible with the parts included and some creativity. It is also very easy to modify mazes to make them harder, without changing them completely, if one has mastered the current maze. The official manual gives some more great ideas for other mazes on its last page but you'll find more inspiration online if you are looking for it. And if you have a crate with Lego at your disposal, you can built even very elaborate themed Lego mazes. Your imagination is your limit. The controls do their job well, the build is sturdy and playing the maze is real fun. There are two minor non-ideal things though that have been mentioned by several other reviewers before: -The balls have two little flat pole areas -The tilting mechanism is on one axis on one side a bit limited I did not really mind the issue with the balls, as long as you keep it moving there is no issue anyway. If anything I think it is part of the challenge as it motivates you to keep the ball moving. The titlting mechanism shortcoming did bother me however. Luckily "JK Brickworks", the original fan-designer of this Ideas set explains a very simple modification to the maze, which needs no extra parts and resolves this issue completely. I would highly recommend trying out his modification. My final conclusion: Great "play-set" (literally), also for grown ups.
