Rated 5 out of 5 by from This set does the classic 1966 show true justice! I absolutely LOVE this set! I put the first bag together with my friend just for kicks before starting on the rest of the set and that short time was a blast! The batmobile the first bag yields was so accurate that I couldn't stop grinning stupidly and whispering "This is JUST like the one in the show...this is JUST like it!" as we built it. Building the rest of it was even better. It's so elaborate and intricate that I think it was worth WAY more than what you pay for it...waaaay more. All the minifigures (except the Penguin) were PERFECT! HOWEVER... Problem: The table in the den was far too big for the minifigures to stand by and look normal. Fix: Shrink the table! Problem: The Penguin minifigure could have been so much better! The Penguin from the Lego Batman Movie got a whole new line of custom accessories like a new top hat, umbrella and fur collar piece but this Penguin didn't measure up. The top hat was a generic run of the mill one--it could have at least had a hairpiece attached or at least included separately. Also, the torso printing was not even close to accurate. Fix: New top hat, torso and umbrella designs! Problem: Where is batgirl? Fix: Include a batgirl minifigure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks so much better in person! Like a lot of people, I was excited when this set was first announced, but had some mixed feelings when I saw the first pictures... "It feels too disjointed... That flat, brown wall is so ugly... The Batpoles are on the wrong side..." Let me tell you- all of those concerns went up in smoke the moment I saw it on display at the Lego Store. This set looks 10x better in person. In fact, I think it's one of the most well-balanced, displayable sets Lego has come out with in recent years. Part of me wonders if some of the negative/mediocre reviews are coming from folks who either don't own the set, or wanted a modern Batcave set, and are disappointed Lego went another direction. The designers absolutely nailed the feel of the TV show set, and the contrast between the brown color scheme (which looks a lot shinier in person) and the reds/greens/oranges is amazing. Oh, and you can move the Batpoles to the left side if you want; in fact, that's the default configuration in the instruction manual. As for the #1 complaint- the "ugly" wall that conceals the Batpoles- all I did was sprinkle in 10 random cave pieces from the back of the set. It looks amazing (see pic below). if you're a huge fan of the classic Batman TV show like I am, and the price tag isn't a deal-breaker, you owe it to yourself to buy this set. You won't regret it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed Bag Something about this set does not sit right with me. There are some very cool things about it, for example the Batmobile is well done, as is the Wayne Manor library, and the many neat little bits for the detective lab. There are a couple of fun play features, but overall the visual look of the set seems haphazard and "cheap" despite the high piece count. The worst part is the huge plain "wall" where the dynamic duo rappel down into the bat cave. It is just ugly to look at. Even if you just wanted to play with it, it is unappealing and takes you out of the moment by just how amateur it looks. Strangely enough, Lego undersells the reverse side of the wall which is a very nice 2d representation of the Wayne Manor exterior. It's not functional per se , but it looks way better than the side they choose to advertise. They did a nice job with including details in the study and here and there but it still just seems incomplete to me. The Batmobile doesn't fit right under the helipad/garage either. Overall, while the piece count suggests a fair deal, I think Lego could have done a better job with this one.
