Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks so much better in person! Like a lot of people, I was excited when this set was first announced, but had some mixed feelings when I saw the first pictures... "It feels too disjointed... That flat, brown wall is so ugly... The Batpoles are on the wrong side..." Let me tell you- all of those concerns went up in smoke the moment I saw it on display at the Lego Store. This set looks 10x better in person. In fact, I think it's one of the most well-balanced, displayable sets Lego has come out with in recent years. Part of me wonders if some of the negative/mediocre reviews are coming from folks who either don't own the set, or wanted a modern Batcave set, and are disappointed Lego went another direction. The designers absolutely nailed the feel of the TV show set, and the contrast between the brown color scheme (which looks a lot shinier in person) and the reds/greens/oranges is amazing. Oh, and you can move the Batpoles to the left side if you want; in fact, that's the default configuration in the instruction manual. As for the #1 complaint- the "ugly" wall that conceals the Batpoles- all I did was sprinkle in 10 random cave pieces from the back of the set. It looks amazing (see pic below). if you're a huge fan of the classic Batman TV show like I am, and the price tag isn't a deal-breaker, you owe it to yourself to buy this set. You won't regret it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Conflicting thoughts I have some conflicting thoughts on this set. First, it is more fun and looks better than it photographs. I was not too impressed with the pictures I saw, but the difference between pictures and reality is much more pronounced than most sets. Second, and on the other hand, there's so much tan and gray, and so much random rock formation stuff, that it is kind of boring to build. I did bags 1, 2, 3, and 8--which comprises the bat-poles, Bruce Wayne's study, and all the vehicles--first, and in all honesty I would've been really happy with a set that just included that much. Bags 4, 5, 6, and 7 were kinda dull, and I feel I would've gotten better value from a set that didn't include them. I'd have to say this is my least favorite of the 5 sets I own in the $200+ price range. But on the third hand, my two daughters (ages 5 and 3 1/2) said this is their favorite set of all the ones we own. They love playing minifigs from this set and our Lego Batman Movie sets (with some Lego Disney Princesses dropping by as well) in the study and the vehicles. (They don't really play with the other two pieces of the bat cave though.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from To the Bat Cave!!! I really enjoyed this set from beginning to end. The details and mini figures are amazing. I was impressed with how the LEGO team recreated this classic show into a LEGO set. I read some of the reviews where people said the set looks better in person and they are right. I would recommend this set for children because it has a lot of play factor and for adults who grew up watching the show. The set will make a great display with your collection. I took my time building this set because I did not want it to end. I hope the LEGO team will come out with new sets in the future that are based on classic shows. My only 2 complaints about the set are: 1) I would like to have seen a direct route from the Wayne office to the bat cave, the book case opens up, but there is no access to the bottom. 2) There is a blank area underneath the Wayne office that should have been filled in more with decorative pieces, but it can be addressed by merely adding more pieces yourself, not a big deal I guess. Overall, I was very pleased with the purchase.
