Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must buy two sets I held off for a long time buying this, as high speed trains are really children's toys. I mean, only one motor unit, one carriage and one steering unit is not really a train. But with two, it's a whole different ball game. There are enough bricks to make two carriages from the three units, so you have a five unit train. Now it looks cool! As one power unit is enough to move the train, you got a spare bottom plate and power unit for your own project. My son and I made one unit a restaurant unit, which looks really cozy. Other parts have been adjusted to fit more seats.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good starting point I will admit that I approached the option of purchasing ANY of the Lego City Train sets with a deal of trepidation. Reviews concerning the battery issues did concern me. I can safely say that I have not had any issues with the expected problem - using Duracell Plus power AAA's - and the train as it comes is VERY speedy. This was only my third Lego build of recent times, after a twenty year gap, and went together extremely quickly - the hardest part was getting the station platform and ramps to stay attached to the track. As built from the instructions, the train will hit the platform end as it comes from the curve (or onto it), but this is easily rectified by swapping sides. I have since purchased two of the extension track packs (7499 and 7895), as well as the blue Cargo Train set. Just need the space now to build it all and set it out...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect For Minifigures I have been researching LEGO trains for a little while and decided to get the High-Speed Passenger Train because of its sleek design and price. Not only is this my first train set, but it is also my first set with Power Functions and I am thrilled. The Power Functions on the train make for great play and it is really fun to watch the train fly around the track. One of my favorite parts about the train is that it can hold a ton of minifigures. There are eight seats total in the train, and you can make other minifigures stand in the train. I was able to fit 24 figures in the train at once! The only critique I have has to do with the design. If the train is moving too fast it will derail around a corner. I did a little research on this issue and was able to find an easy fix to the problem. All in all this set is amazing and I look forward to playing with it for years to come!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Modern Addition to a Train Collection This train looks very sleek and modern when compared to the previous version, the red passenger train (7938). The set includes the train, three minifigures, a bicycle, a small platform and a narrow crossing, presumably for pedestrians and bicyclists. I thought the build was easy until I had to put the nose part on. In the end, I had to place the train on its side to get the piece attached. There are a few stickers, but I guess they're inevitable. The battery box problems that I had with the Cargo Train continued with this train, but after some fiddling with the batteries everything started working. The track is rather short (but it was just as short in the set 7938) and as previous reviewers have pointed out, the nose does stick out. This means you have to place the platform on the inside of the track or right in the middle of two straight track pieces and the pedestrian crossing on the other side of the track. If you don't, the nose will chafe against the platform. The instruction booklet number 2 actually shows how to place the platform and the crossing properly. Also, the way the map of train services is attached to the platform is a bit flimsy as it's connected to the black fence piece with only two studs at the center. All in all, a very nice and good-looking set with a few minor problems. Definitely a must-have for the average train enthusiast.
