Rated 5 out of 5 by from 'Train the boy.' It's shocking to think that this lightsaber battle has never been attempted in Lego before, even though it introduced audiences to a brand new kind of lightsaber. These small location sets are good value for money and offer a quick, easy build that's great for display or play. It's an interesting build with some interesting techniques used to create the shape. The play features are fun - the 'laser' gate swings open and shut (like it turns on and off in the film) and Obi Wan can 'leap' out of the shaft when you hit the catapult lever. The minifigures are possibly the best part of this set. Darth Maul is a standout with superb printing on his robes and face. Fans will be pleased to know that his head piece has 9 horns just as he has in the film. Qui-Gon Jinn is movie accurate and again has detailed printing. Obi Wan Kenobi isn't much different from previous versions but is good minifigure. This is a great set for either re-enacting the scenes from The Phantom Menace or as a Prequels display piece. Either way locations are rare in Lego form and this set captures it really well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Set! This is a good set! It's definitely a play set though rather than a display one. That can be seen as a good thing or a bad thing depending on who you talk to. In my opinion, I'm fine with it being more for play since the scene in the movie was very action packed with a lot of things they could make into play features, which they did. The features include the blast shields and catapult function which launches Obi-Wan out of the pit. The pit of course doesn't launch him perfectly, but it's still fun. And the laser shields open forwards which can make it a little cramped, but it's a small complaint which doesn't matter too much. I love that we get all 3 minifigs from the scene for a cheap price! Which is another reason I approve of it being a play set rather than a display one, if they made a big model out of it, it would have been way more expensive and then we couldn't get the figs for a cheaper price. The double sided faces only add to the set, I love Qui-Gon's. Maul's smile is ok, he smiles in like only one of the scenes, I wish he had a serious expression like the older figs of him. I wish Lego would stop giving Obi-Wan orange hair though, I can understand giving him that hair for episode 2 and 3, since it matches better, but in episode 1 his hair was definitely just brown. A good choice for kids and adults, buy this set!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long Overdue! One of the most memorable battles in the Star Wars franchise for me personally, I was so pleased to see the set finally be made! I think it's great value for money, you get 3 excellent minifigures. I personally prefer the old Darth Maul figure and I find the rubber horns on his head a bit gimmicky and unnecessary but I'm sure kids would love this. The set has great play value, kid's could send Obi down the pit and use the launch pad to send him flying back out like in the film. Also the red barrier can be opened and closed with a cool mechanic. Personally, I have sets for display only and using a good majority of pieces from this set (although I used a few pieces from other sets I have) I redesigned it for display purposes. I've added images of my redesign below, capturing the moment Maul stabs Qui Gon Jinn and sends Obi down the pit as he hangs on for his life whilst Maul looks down upon him.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Collectable Minifigs and a Fabulous Playset I got this set a couple months after the release, and it was a good build, with great minifigs, and many fun play features. Here is everything included: Minifigs: Qui-Gon Jinn: 10/10 He is perfect! You usually only get a Qui-Gon Jinn minifig in a set that costs over $80 or $90, so it is great to be able to get such a hard to get minifig like him. Obi-Wan Kenobi: 9/10 This minifig’s situation is like Qui-Gon Jinn’s. The only problem is that the hair doesn’t look right. I think Lego should have used hair that looked more accurate. Darth Maul: 10/10 This is my favourite minifig in the set. The printing on him is awesome and, again, he is hard to get. The Build: 8/10 The highlight of the build is definitely the play features. The laser gate is done perfectly and is easy to open/close. The feature where Obi-Wan Kenobi can jump out of the chute-thing is simple but fun. I am glad that there are not too many stickers used, but the one big one used can be a bit difficult to apply for younger builders without help. Also, the build can easily start to fall apart if there is a mistake in the building (I experienced that firsthand) or if it is played with too roughly. Still, it is a good build and great for play. Overall: 90% For collectors this is a great buy because of the minifigure selection. This is a great buy for young builders because of all the play features. The price to part ratio is a bit too high, but I would still recommend it and is a must buy when on clearance.
