Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Set The entire family are huge Lego fans. We did a Mindstorms class at LegoLand FL last year and was looking forward for something like this to arrive for my son. He is 8 years old and is a massive Lego fanatic. He built and coded Vernie the robot almost completely by himself. I rarely review Lego sets but the Lego Boost set warrants it. It is absolutely fantastic. We have an Ipad at home so we didn't have any issues with the app. Every aspect of this set has worked flawlessly for us. It isn't a cheap set but, in my opinion, it is well worth the money. It teaches kids basic coding and I think that's important for the future. I am really impressed. I hope that there will be more Lego Boost sets in the future. My son has not stopped raving about it and can't wait to continue coding Vernie and eventually move on to one of the other 4 builds that can be built with this set. 5 stars the whole way!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! What a great product! I'm a senior citizen who just happened to see this on the counter of the local Lego store and thought it would be an amusing brain-game. The robot is really what caught my eye. Johnny 5, from the movie "Short Circuit," lives! He just changed his name to Vernie. ;) I didn't really expect to find just how many different ways you can program Vernie. Lot's of voice phrases and you can even add custom voices you create on your own. Pretty cool do see Vernie running around as he's chattering away. Neat! The build was indeed a nice little challenge. Nothing overwhelming, but it took me most of a day. I had to go back and do a "redo," at one point when I made a building error. Take your time and make sure you carefully analyze the illustrations. It should be a really fun effort for the young ones but they'll need patience and concentration. The Boost kit would be worth it just for reenforcing those qualities, alone. :) The programming of various routines is an absolute blast! So many creative options. Vernie is a guarantee to bring a smile to your face, once you get this down. Like many cyber devices, you may get a "glitch" or failure to run sometimes on some of the function codes. I found it usually happens after I've run Vernie for awhile. A quick reset of the Boost platform will fix this, apparently a clearing "data reset" is needed after operating for awhile. No big deal, once you realize this will fix it. A couple of tips. Vernie HAD to have his own "voice box," so I got a very small Anker bluetooth speak to mount on his body. I bluetooth his voice of my tablet with a separate Taotronics bluetooth transmitter, hooked into the headset port of my tablet. It works great! No glitches, and little Vernie is cuter than heck, with his voice actually coming from him! Also, I'm using Rayovac 900mAh rechargeable nimh's. Good capacity for a AAA battery so I get really good run times and they recharge well. You can run Vernie around the clock with two sets. "This LEGO set DOES compute." You will love your very own Johnny 5...err Vernie! :) Thank you, LEGO. Great job!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant set for any Lego fan Bought this set for my 9 year old daughter for xmas, to say she is pleased with it would be a massive understatement. She hasn't put it down since xmas day and has already built the main models and coded them and has now moved on to the creative canvas on the app, she has also managed to work out how to use the Lego boost motors and app and built a Ferris wheel for her Lego figures using pieces from other sets. Some parts of the builds could be quite difficult for a novice builder but as my daughter has been building Lego friends sets since she was 4 years old she had no problem. Overall I'm very impressed with the Lego boost set my daughter loves it and enjoys building Lego whilst also improving her ICT skills by coding on the app. Well done Lego on another great fun but also educational set

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! If it got lost I'd buy it again tomorrow FIRST THINGS FIRST. Check your tablet compatibility (Right now Lego has the link to that page right above the "add to bag" button on this product). We have a 4 year old Android tablet that works great, but I was careful to make sure it would be compatible before I purchased this. It is compatible and it certainly isn't the newest tablet out there, not even close. I can't even get a case for anymore it is that old. Now that I've used this and in hind sight knowing what I know now I would of bought a new tablet if I didn't have one just so we could use this toy. Okay so I bought this for my kids. When indoors my 6 year old plays almost exclusively with his Lego, and my 5 year old is about 50/50 Lego and other toys. This has been an amazing set for them. The 6 year old loves to do it with me, but CAN do it with a minimal amount of help. The 5 year old can do it mostly by himself we me near by to help him now and then. The thing that initially prompted us to buy this is our kid's interest in robots, spurred on by the movies Astro Boy, Wall-E, and especially Big Hero 6. First, the progression is very logical. The app takes you through a simple build step by step which introduces you (your child) to the three robotic controls and how to use the program. It's just super simple and awesome and you'll be making it do things within 20 minutes of opening the box and downloading the app. Second, during the play with the initial intro toy, we had a technical issue to do with the app and the MOVE brick (that's the big part with the batteries and Bluetooth sensor). Okay well instead of turning to the internet I called Lego's support. I was on hold for less than 5 minutes, which was worth the wait because whoever I talked to was the most helpful person in the world and was able to help me resolve my (very unique and rarely occurring but acknowledged nonetheless) technical issue. Tremendous! 30 minutes after the problem became apparent it was resolved, I was off the phone, and play had resumed. Third, THE BAGS ARE IN ORDER. Either Lego fixed this OR people were building different items as their initial build; obviously all 5 potential builds can't be in bag order at the same time. You can choose to build any of 5 robots when you first get the kit. We built the robot "Vernie" first, and the bag contents were in perfect order 2 through 11 (1 contains the parts for the initial introductory robot). 100% would buy again. I HAD TO write a review when I saw that this wasn't 5 stars overall on the Lego website, because people with an ax to grind may be deterring people from buying this who would otherwise get a ton of enjoyment playing with it (or playing with their kids). Yes I admit I also play with it a tiny bit when my kids can't. If you buy this do yourself a favour and go to Walmart and get the biggest pack of their house-brand of AAA batteries. It would be a welcome change if they had used AA batteries which are much cheaper and last longer, but otherwise a great toy. With 6AAA batteries we get about 1.5-2 hours of solid play. I have to say I was also really impressed with the capabilities, especially the optical sensor which is just great. Know that the sound features use the tablet speaker. This has been great for us as the volume is easy to adjust and you can have whatever quality sound you are used to from your tablet. Sound from the robot would of been a welcome feature as well but I don't think that the sound from the tablet takes away from the experience whatsoever. In fact my opinion is that it re-enforces the roles of the computer as the 'brain' in the programming experience. Finally, do yourself a favour and get a couple cheap sorting trays to store the parts in for when you inevitably take apart one build and put together another. We did and it has worked great! Good luck and I hope you enjoy this as much as we do!
