Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Set Very solid model. Best detailed fuselage on the Tie Fighter I've seen to date. Bought a second one and turned it into the TIE/rb "Tie Brute"!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TIE/LN I've had almost every iteration of the TIE fighter since it's initial 2001 appearance, so you could say I've grown up with the TIE fighter. The TIE/LN was the front line starfighter model used by the Galactic Empire from shortly after the end of the Clone Wars, to well after the Galactic Civil War. This starship, as well as the Star Destroyer, Stormtrooper, as well as Darth Vader, was seen as the symbol for the Empire. This model is a huge improvement over past designs of the standard TIE fighter. The wings are locked into place with a new mechanism, so the wings no longer "jiggle" around when flying. The detail has drastically improved as well since the previous 2012 model, and that model was already well detailed. The cockpit also now includes clips to holds weapons for whomever is flying the ship, a feature new to the standard TIE model. Also a great improvement is how the cockpit canopy and hatch are independent of each other, so you can open one hatch without having to necessarily open the other. The minifigures included are interesting. You have the standard Imperial pilot, of course, as well as the new Mimban trooper (which has very well designed armor), as well as Han Solo in Imperial Army attire, and Tobias Beckett disguised as an officer with combat apparel. All in all, the only issue I had with this set was the higher price point. $89.99 CAD seems a little high for a ~500 piece set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The old school Tie Tongue-tied to find better words to describe this beautiful model. Sleek, strong, swish-able, stable, this model hits the sweet spot between gorgeous display model and tough playset. I guess you could say that it’s ruggedly handsome. Enjoyable to build, you’re taken through a playful angular juggle as you construct the cockpit around various angles. Assembling the twin bow-tie solar arrays are also enjoyable for a first-time experience whilst not becoming tedious to reproduce on the other side. They attach with a satisfying click and you’re good to go! Inserting the pilot is much easier to do than previous Tie variations as the cockpit opens from the front and top. Also, the clip on the steering yoke holds the pilot in much more securely than previous models. You can feel your enthusiasm mounting just like a trainee pilot fresh out of the imperial academy. Off you go and the first thing you notice is how well balanced the model is. Tie’s were meant to be light and manoeuvrable and this model holds up to the specifications. You can fly this eyeball with one hand tied behind your back; spinning is an ease and the ship makes a pleasing silhouette and framing when flown. The model sits very securely on its wings and is easily able to navigate being perched up high on wobbly shelves. I found the first order tie rather bulky compared to this slightly lighter version. The classic black colour scheme makes the wings feel less bulky. Lego have done a great job in bringing out many of the classical design elements of a 40-year-old spaceship design. I found the price a bit steep, but on a slight store discount you’ll get great satisfaction for your purchase. This one will stay out on display so even though the box might not contain a trove of parts or volume to the model itself, this tie is a definite keeper. Get it, it’s great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! It's strong, sturdy, well built... The Tie looks great on display as well as playing well. There is plenty of room inside the cockpit and i particularly love the ability to hang up the figures guns, as it gives more room for the figure and so you don't lose the weapons all over your house. Mini-figures: Han Solo - brilliant to get him as a mud trooper, with lots of good printing on torso, legs and cape. Tobias Beckett - Amazing figure, really stands out. Minban Trooper - Nice new helmet mold and print, good print on torso. Tie pilot - The same as the others, would have been nice to have arm printing. Overall, the set is good for play and display, but it would be even better if the wing pattern was on the inside as well as outside, and if Lego did a dual molded spring-loaded dart with red on the end and green as the main color.
