Fantastic SetThe entire family are huge Lego fans. We did a Mindstorms class at LegoLand FL last year and was looking forward for something like this to arrive for my son. He is 8 years old and is a massive Lego fanatic. He built and coded Vernie the robot almost completely by himself. I rarely review Lego sets but the Lego Boost set warrants it. It is absolutely fantastic. We have an Ipad at home so we didn't have any issues with the app. Every aspect of this set has worked flawlessly for us. It isn't a cheap set but, in my opinion, it is well worth the money. It teaches kids basic coding and I think that's important for the future. I am really impressed. I hope that there will be more Lego Boost sets in the future. My son has not stopped raving about it and can't wait to continue coding Vernie and eventually move on to one of the other 4 builds that can be built with this set. 5 stars the whole way!

The kids love itI will make this one short, but I brought this set out this week and the kids (ages 5 & 6.75) love it. They are very into Lego, with many large sets / theme collections, and they have played with this one more in the past few days than any of the others. The app that you download is set up with interactive instructions that walk you thought the build(s) with unlocking activities that introduce you to the various commands available in the application.
The programming techniques are primarily accessed though simple drag and drop commands that can be sequenced, and/or run in parallel. There are several execute types, with looping commands, movements, audio prompts, voice recording, pre-recorded audio clips, optical prompts, and movement sensors. Almost all commands have user variables that can be easily set through numeric entry or graphic selection. But still the overall programming structure remains simple. In addition, the user has ability to develop scripts and save them to different tool boxes.
Really impressed with the app, and the multiple configurations available through the integration of the Lego System platform. Again my children love it, and it has kept them entertained and engrossed more (so far) than any other Lego set they have. (It mixes best of both worlds for them, tablet and Lego).

Brilliant set for any Lego fanBought this set for my 9 year old daughter for xmas, to say she is pleased with it would be a massive understatement. She hasn't put it down since xmas day and has already built the main models and coded them and has now moved on to the creative canvas on the app, she has also managed to work out how to use the Lego boost motors and app and built a Ferris wheel for her Lego figures using pieces from other sets. Some parts of the builds could be quite difficult for a novice builder but as my daughter has been building Lego friends sets since she was 4 years old she had no problem. Overall I'm very impressed with the Lego boost set my daughter loves it and enjoys building Lego whilst also improving her ICT skills by coding on the app. Well done Lego on another great fun but also educational set

Wow! What a great product!I'm a senior citizen who just happened to see this on the counter of the local Lego store and thought it would be an amusing brain-game. The robot is really what caught my eye. Johnny 5, from the movie "Short Circuit," lives! He just changed his name to Vernie. ;)
I didn't really expect to find just how many different ways you can program Vernie. Lot's of voice phrases and you can even add custom voices you create on your own. Pretty cool do see Vernie running around as he's chattering away. Neat!
The build was indeed a nice little challenge. Nothing overwhelming, but it took me most of a day. I had to go back and do a "redo," at one point when I made a building error. Take your time and make sure you carefully analyze the illustrations. It should be a really fun effort for the young ones but they'll need patience and concentration. The Boost kit would be worth it just for reenforcing those qualities, alone. :)
The programming of various routines is an absolute blast! So many creative options. Vernie is a guarantee to bring a smile to your face, once you get this down. Like many cyber devices, you may get a "glitch" or failure to run sometimes on some of the function codes. I found it usually happens after I've run Vernie for awhile. A quick reset of the Boost platform will fix this, apparently a clearing "data reset" is needed after operating for awhile. No big deal, once you realize this will fix it.
A couple of tips. Vernie HAD to have his own "voice box," so I got a very small Anker bluetooth speak to mount on his body. I bluetooth his voice of my tablet with a separate Taotronics bluetooth transmitter, hooked into the headset port of my tablet. It works great! No glitches, and little Vernie is cuter than heck, with his voice actually coming from him! Also, I'm using Rayovac 900mAh rechargeable nimh's. Good capacity for a AAA battery so I get really good run times and they recharge well. You can run Vernie around the clock with two sets.
"This LEGO set DOES compute." You will love your very own Johnny 5...err Vernie! :)
Thank you, LEGO. Great job!
